Living in Belgium

History and Atmosphere in Belgium

Flanders is a little pocket of easy-to-reach towns and cities, teeming with history and atmosphere. Wherever you wander you will find café terraces (serving the world’s strongest beers), lively markets, gastronomic restaurants, and great shopping.
The capital, Brussels, is a melting pot of cultures, languages, and traditions. Explore historic landmarks like the Grand Place, marvel at Art Nouveau architecture, and enjoy Belgian fries and chocolate. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a foodie, or a history fan, Brussels has something for everyone.

Gateway to Europe

As public transport in Flanders makes moving around quick, safe, and easy, it gives you the
freedom to visit and experience student life in Belgium to the fullest.
If you like to explore other parts of Europe during your stay, you will be delighted to find cities like London, Paris, Cologne or Amsterdam all within a radius of 300 km. These cities are easily accessible by high-speed trains or budget-friendly coaches.

Hungry! Thirsty!

When you study, you become hungry and especially thirsty! Living in Flanders isn’t always cheap, but we have come up with a solution: each campus has its very own student restaurant where you can get a hot meal, snacks, salads, soups, sandwiches, and more all at reasonable prices.

Sports, culture, and recreation @ Odisee

Every student needs a dose of relaxation now and then! Exercising, enjoying culture, attending concerts, or meeting up with other students. The possibilities for an exciting student life are vast! The Student Services Department (STUVO+) happily shares the offer with you.

Feel like exercising?! STUVO+ likes to point you in the right direction: what sport clubs to join, which activities or competitions to register for, and when to block the dates in your agenda.
Every semester STUVO+ organizes sports activities like boxing, yoga, skiing, spinning, table tennis, carting… for free or at a reasonable rate. Students can register with the sports coordinator of STUVO+.

Find the full sports and culture offer and more information on the webpage:

Student housing

Alongside sports and culture, STUVO+ is the Odisee service responsible for student
accommodation on our campuses. STUVO+ gladly assists you with information and advice
during your search. More information on housing per campus is listed on our website:
https://www.odisee.be/en/student-housing.

Odisee has limited student rooms available on the campuses of Ghent and Sint-Niklaas.
Applying for an in-house student room is done via STUVO+ after consulting the International Relations Office.

In Brussels and Alost, we do not have any student rooms and therefore refer students to the private market. The price for a student room in Belgium ranges between €400 and €600 per month.

Keep in mind that the number of student rooms for a short-term rental on the private
market in Ghent and Brussels are scarce. We recommend starting your search on time.
Reliable sources are listed below, which may help you in your search for a student room.
